JBQ Ideas for Kids Camp

Six-Game Quiz Off

For this series of quizzes, JBQ should be one of three afternoon rotations during Kids’ Camp. All campers will have one hour of JBQ each day Monday through Thursday during the week of camp. For the afternoon rotations, all campers are divided into three color groups that rotate throughout the afternoon to each event.

During the JBQ session, each color group is divided into twelve teams, which places twelve to twenty campers on a team, depending on the size of the camp. These twelve teams will compete against each other in six different games throughout the week.

  • This quiz match introduces kids to Junior Bible Quiz.
  • Kids should rotate every five questions so that all the kids participate.
  • Rules can be modified from the JBQ Official Quiz Guidelines.
  • A quiz-out will occur after three questions.
  • There will be no fouls and no appeals.
  • The team with the most points wins.
  • The campers pair off in twos.
  • Each pair makes their way through six stations. Once each pair has gone all the way through, they receive a puzzle piece for their team.
  • At each station there will be a quiz question. One camper will ask the question while the other tries to answer it. If the question is answered incorrectly, the camper will have to do a challenge (i.e., jump rope, jumping jacks, etc.). The camper MUST try to answer the question before the challenge can be given.
  • The first team to get all their puzzle pieces put together is the winner.
  • This game will be made up of all the quotation questions.
  • The campers pair off in twos.
  • Each pair is given a quotation question to answer. The campers will run down and search through a tub of balls for all the words to the verse that answers their question.
  • The team that finds the most verses in a given time will win.
  • Campers will rotate every five questions.
  • Rules will be the same as the Jeopardy game show: the Quizmaster reads the answer, and the kids respond with the question.
  • The team with the most points wins.
  • This game will consist of fifty Junior Bible Quiz questions.
  • Campers will be given a question on a color-coded card. They will have to hunt to find the hidden color-coded answer card that matches.
  • Team that finds the most matches wins.
  • This game consists of the 30-point questions that deal with the listing of the books of the Bible.
  • There will be two sets of color-coded blocks with the names of the books of the Bible on them. The blocks will be scattered throughout the yard.
  • The campers will be asked a question and will have to go and find blocks that answer the question. Then they must put them in the right order. All the blocks must be the same color.
  • The team that completes and answers the most questions wins.

After each game the winning team can receive a small prize!

Day One
Give each camper and counselor a set of fifty JBQ questions. The questions should include 10-, 20-, and 30-point questions. Select a topic or difficult quotation question to focus on each day. Present a teaching time on the first day to help campers master a difficult question or to learn several questions that deal with the focus for the week. A variety of memory helps and visual aids should be used to assist during this teaching time. Explain the six games and prizes they can earn.

Days Two, Three, & Four
Campers rotate through the six games, which are designed to help hide the Word of God in each camper’s heart. During the Junior Bible Quiz session each day, the counselors should be available to help in organizing the kids and keeping team spirits up. Some games may require help in operating, so counselors should be available as needed.

The ideal number of people needed to staff this JBQ program is eight. This includes:

  • A head coordinator who determines the JBQ questions to be used, the six games to be played, and the teaching focus for the first session, as well as overseeing the week. The coordinator also submits all above information to the CE department so that questions and game rules may be placed in the counselor books and so that the campers’ question sets can be made.
  • Six staff members, each assigned to run one of the six games for the week.
  • One staff member assigned to be out with the color group that is having free time.

The JBQ staff has only three hours a day where they are committed, therefore all of the JBQ staff is available to help wherever else they may be needed during the rest of the day! It is, however, not recommended that the JBQ staff be counselors.
